Late FG powers WVU over S. Florida

TAMPA, Fla. -- No. 22 West Virginia did its part to earn a spot in the Bowl Championship Series, clinching a tie for the Big East title by beating South Florida.

Tyler Bitancurt kicked a 28-yard field goal as time expired, incredibly hitting the right upright for the second time during the game. His first quarter the attempt was ruled no good, as the ball bounced back onto the field. In his final attempt, the ball wobbled through for the game winning score after hitting the upright.

"It's fun to hit the uprights," Bitancurt was heard to say after the game. "It's like playing pool."

I can't take another one of these last minute, pull-it-out-of-your-butt wins. It makes my couch nervous!

But I'll take a heart attack win over a loss any day. Can you imagine how the South Florida fans felt when they lost that hard fought game on a last second field goal that bounced off the upright, for Christ's sake?

Or how about the Cincy Bearcats? They needed to tie the game to survive and go into overtime and they had it in the bag with a short field goal attempt. Then, for the first time since 2004, a WVU player blocks the kick!

Do you know the difference between a dollar bill and the WVU football team? You can get four quarters out of a dollar bill. Yuk yuk, I kill me!

Here's hoping they play four quarters in the Orange Bowl and come out with another victory!

The kicking needs to be done to the butts of whoever signed up the kicker AND the punter. Thank goodness they replaced that punter in time to pull that last game out.

I've been in Miami during Orange Bowl party week...if the Eers can survive the bars at night and South Beach in the daytime, the game should be the easy part. It's a great time in a great town. The Eers are winners even if they do get beat. Even with all the nail biters they did what they had to do to get to the show. I think WV has found itself a great coach who did a fine job with what he had to do with. I'm glad we are finally going to get away from the Big East officials.

I loved the WV, Miami game today!
