Vanessa Kritzer pitches experienced, movement-driven progressivism in competitive 45th District House race
Redmond City Councilmember Vanessa Kritzer is making a detailed case for why experience across levels of government (and a progressive worldview rooted in strong convictions) makes her the best candidate in a potentially competitive race for State House, Position #2 in Washingtons 45th Legislative District.
The seat, long held by Deputy Majority Leader Larry Springer, could be open this year. Springer told NPI last week that he has not decided whether hell seek reelection or not, but will make a decision next month. In the meantime, Kritzer has declared her candidacy, as has Democratic attorney Chandler Torbett. No Republicans or independents are running for the position yet. Filing Week will be May 4th 8th, 2026.
In a wide-ranging interview, Kritzer laid out a campaign centered on housing affordability, climate action, progressive revenue reform, and defending civil liberties to cumulatively meet the scale of todays challenges.
I believe its time for new leadership and a more progressive voice in that seat thats grounded in the issues that matter to our residents, Kritzer said.
