ICE reportedly considering a new office in Tukwila
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement appears to be planning a new office in Tukwila, according to federal records obtained by the tech publication Wired.
Wired first reported that ICE and the Department of Homeland Security have plans to lease or expand into more than 150 offices in nearly every state. Riverfront Technical Park at 2811 S. 102nd St. is one of them.
Riverfront Technical Park is about 2.5 miles south of Boeing Field, where ICE operates deportation flights. It's also 2 miles up the road from ICEs field office at the Department of Homeland Security building, where a large protest prompted by an unusual weekend check-in for immigrants took place last June. ICE agents detained at least two immigrants and federal and Tukwila police officers sprayed chemical agents on a group of about 150 people.
An inventory of leased properties by the General Services Administration, which leases real estate for federal agencies, lists the Riverfront Technical Park address as one of its properties. Its records show that the federal government is renting close to 14,000 square feet in the building. According to LoopNets office space calculator, that amount of space could accommodate around 75 to 125 employees.
