Democratic State Representative Sharon Wylie pledges transparency and integrity in bid for Clark County Auditor
In the coming midterm elections, voters in Washington States fifth most populous jurisdiction will have the important responsibility of choosing a new top elections official for the first time in decades, with longtime Clark County Auditor Greg Kimsey having decided to retire after twenty-seven years of service to his community.
The successor they choose will assume Kimseys duties, which include administering elections countywide, as well as serving as the chief financial officer, managing public records, and issuing licenses, at a time when American democracy is under attack from within like never before in its modern history.
Clark County, located across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon, is home to communities like Americas Vancouver, Camas, Washougal, Battle Ground, and Ridgefield. It is a swing county that can vote for either Democrats or Republicans, but increasingly favors Democrats in federal races, which is partly why sophomore U.S. Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez has been able to win two successive campaigns.
The most prominent candidate to declare thus far is Democratic State Representative Sharon Wylie, who will be leaving the Legislature to seek the position.
