King County completes purchase of Broadway medical building for crisis care center

King County has acquired a Broadway medical building in Seattle that it will convert to a 24/7 crisis care center, which has drawn opposition from neighbors.

The county recorded the sale Dec. 19. The total price is $39.38 million for the Optum Care building at 1145 Broadway and the 60-year-old medical-office building at the apex of the nearly 1.3-acre, triangular-like property, said Angie Malpass, spokesperson for the King County Crisis Care Centers Initiative. Also included in the price is the parking garage and adjacent vacant lot.

Optum Care Washington is in the building. An entity linked to United HealthCare Services Inc., the parent company of Optum, is listed in records as the seller.

Phoenix-based Connections Health Solutions has been selected to operate the facility, though the county has not yet announced a timeline, and a general contractor has not yet been hired.
