Washington state council taps brakes on natural gas ban in new buildings

The State Building Code Council voted Wednesday to delay the effective date of the controversial new energy code for 120 days, until Oct. 29.

The council directed its staff to convene two technical advisory groups to consider proposals from stakeholders to modify sections in the commercial and residential energy code.

Staff members will compile the proposals for the council to consider at a later date, states the brief announcement.

Council members and staff were not immediately available to comment on when the advisory groups will meet and when the council will discuss modifications.
