Voter turnout was low in Harrisonburg for special election

Harrisonburg residents all across the city took time to vote in the special election on Tuesday.

Voters across the 6th District, which includes Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, voted on a measure that would amend the state’s constitution and allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts and give as many as four of Virginia’s congressional seats to Democrats.

As of midday Wednesday, unofficial statewide results showed the measure would pass, with 51.45% voting in favor.

Mark Finks, Harrisonburg’s voter registrar, said overall voter turnout in the city was low, but still higher than he and his colleagues expected it to be.
