Liberty University professor charged in sexual battery, abduction of student

by David Cross, Cynthia Beasley Wednesday, December 1st 2021

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — A professor at Liberty University has been arrested on suspicion of sexual battery and abduction.

Online records show William Atwell, who is listed on Liberty University's website as an associate professor of American Sign Language, has been charged in Lynchburg General District Court.

According to online records, Atwell was arrested by Liberty University police on November 20 and charged with sexual battery and abduction by force or intimidation related to an incident on Sept. 15, 2021.

Atwell was released from the Lynchburg Adult Detention Center on Monday after posting a $3,000 bond. He is set to appear in court on Jan 25, 2022.

Atwell's arrest comes as Liberty University faces several lawsuits alleging the university punished women who reported being sexually assaulted on campus.

Why not by real police officers, as opposed to glorified mall cops?

$3,000 bond for KIDNAPPING?

"Sexual battery and abduction by intimidation" could mean 'pushed student against a wall, making them feel restrained, and tried to force a kiss on student'.

Not that this is nothing, obviously, but one would hope it's something as comparatively mild as this in order for the judge to let him go on only $3K.

Hopefully?

that he would be perfect for Liberty. I don't know how religious he is, but he's a RW hero now. Liberty will probably offer him a scholarship. Or they might just give him an honorary degree and put him on the faculty. He could head the Vigilante Justice department.
