The Proud Boys, a far-right group, are now appropriating Buc-ees brand merchandise at rallies and protests, according to Texas Monthly.
At a recent Pride event in the Dallas suburb of McKinney, members of the Proud Boys showed up in tactical vests, black and yellow Fred Perry polo shirts, and Buc-ees-branded face masks bearing the buck-toothed grin of a cartoon beaver the mascot of the Texas-based convenience store chain, the magazine reported.
It wasn't the first time the all-male neofacist group has appropriated the Texas chain, according to Texas Monthly. The Proud Boys, a group linked to political violence, including the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, which led to seditious conspiracy charges for multiple members, have been spotted in Buc-ees garb multiple times in the Lone Star State.
Members were seen wearing Buc-ees masks in Houston at the NRA convention in May, in Arlington at a drag queen brunch, and at a city council meeting in Frisco last month when elected officials issued a proclamation designating June as Pride Month.
According to one account, the Proud Boys attending the city council meeting called the LGBTQ community pedophiles and suggested that parents who brought their children be taken outside and beaten up.

From now on, I am free to assume that all people wearing Buckee merchandise are Proud Boys

(15,398 posts)1. Not too big of a stretch...the owner has donated more than $1 million to Gov. Greg Abbott
and has also made made major contributions to crooked Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and other GOP miscreants.

(44,759 posts)2. That is good to know.
We don't look for Buc-ees stores to stop at, but we have gone in occasionally. Will keep looking for other options.
