Knoxville Area Transit offering free rides to the polls on Election Day

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knoxville Area Transit has offered free Election Day rides for the past couple of years in an attempt to alleviate any barriers that potential voters may face, said Isaac Thorne, director for KAT. The organization will once again give voters free rides on Aug. 1.

"We're helping getting people to the polls," he said. "We see a little bit of an uptick in ridership on free fare rides."

Thorne said the rides are to get people to participate in the voting process. He urged voters to get into the polls early, saying that KAT will have multiple routes going to different polling locations.

"We have a number of different routes," Thorne said. "They all go to different polling locations throughout the city. People can look that information up and see what their polling location is."
