NEW CASTLE POLICE CAMERA REGISTRY Program
New Castle Police are asking residents, business owners and renters to sign up and register their security cameras in an effort to fight crime.

Lt. Steven Brooks told me the program is a faster way for officers to know where to look during an investigation. And if a resident or business registers, police request video when needed.

The resident or business owner can then choose whether to provide the video.

Lt. Brooks points out the department cannot access cameras in real time.

Police need camera owners to provide a physical copy of the video or allow police to access it after the fact.

Your information will be kept confidential and only accessed by authorized personnel Brooks said.

"We will go to their residence if they are not home," Lt. Steven Brooks. "Hopefully, they left a phone number or email address we can contact them that way if need be."

Are they serious? How can we trust the NCPD that our information will be kept safe? How can we trust that they won't charge us with "inhibiting an investigation" if we don't turn over upon demand? How can we believe that they will respect our property rights when they, as the spox said, "will go to their home if they are not home."
