Luzerne County election board Chairwoman Denise Williams resigns

WILKES-BARRE — Luzerne County Board of Elections Chairwoman Denise Williams announced her resignation, effective immediately, at the end of Wednesday night’s election board meeting.

Williams, who has been chair of the five-member volunteer board since April 2021, said she decided to run for county council next year and does not want even the appearance of a potential conflict.

Williams, a Democrat who lives in Kingston Twp., had previously announced she would not seek reappointment as chairperson after her term expires on April 20, 2025.

She announced her immediate resignation Wednesday night while speaking from the podium in the council meeting room at the county courthouse, after getting up from the table from which she chaired the meeting.
