(Pa) 8-year-old girl found living in deplorable conditions in Armstrong County

KISKIMINETAS TOWNSHIP, Pa. —
A mother is facing several charges after police said her 8-year-old daughter was found living in deplorable conditions. Police in Kiski Township, Armstrong County, said they were called to a home on Flat Rock Road at around 6:45 p.m. Monday for a welfare check on a juvenile.

Police found the girl was living in the home with no working toilet, a cardboard box for a front door and garbage stacked in all the rooms so that the child was unable to sleep in her bed. Police said there were also several boxes of dirty clothes around the home. The child was placed in the custody of a relative and her mother, Mindy Smith, 44, was taken into custody.

Police said Smith also attempted to stab an 18-year-old man in the neck at the home during an argument that took place before they arrived. Police said the man fended off the attack and left.

Smith is now in the Armstrong County Jail.
