After four months of house arrest, Harrisburg woman Riley June Williams will be free 13 hours a day while she continues to await her trial for her role in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
Wiliams, 22, was arrested in January, first on charges for participating in the riot and later on allegations that she stole Nancy Pelosis laptop.
According to court records filed Tuesday, Williams was originally released on house arrest with location monitoring on Jan. 21. This was to include restrictions at all times except for employment, education, court appearances, other services and court-related activities.
In the motion requesting an amendment to her release conditions, her attorney argued that Williams has not been indicted yet, indicating that there is still a lengthy pre-trial process ahead of her.
Ms. Williams has bills to pay including a car payment, and a phone payment as she was ordered to get a flip phone in this case, the motion states.
Because Williams has not violated her release conditions so far, her attorney argued that she should be allowed to leave her house between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. so that she can look for a job.
According to these documents, Williams is expected to have a hearing on May 28.

(19,320 posts)I know there are circumstances its warranted and maybe this is one. But generally I think it sucks that people are punished and then found innocent at trial. How fair is that. State says, oops. Meanwhile their lives are destroyed. This is not one of the situations but it does happen a lot.

Do you think murder case bails should be set like that for swiping apples? Do you find no bail for those accused of murderers unconstitutional because of presumption of innocence?
