AG, governor to announce 'major development' in UPMC-Highmark dispute

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro and Gov. Tom Wolf are scheduled to announce a "major development" in the UPMC-Highmark dispute on Monday morning.

The nature of the scheduled announcement was unclear Sunday evening.

A Commonwealth Court judge ruled this month that Highmark insurance members would lose access to many UPMC doctors after June 30, ending the sides’ years-old consent decrees.

Mr. Shapiro’s office, which has been investigating UPMC’s conduct in the case, was reportedly seeking legal remedies after abandoning his appeal.
