Afghanistan War veteran and small business owner John Olson plans major announcement
Tulsa, Oklahoma Afghanistan War veteran and small business owner John Olson plans to make a major announcement at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 23 at the Tulsa Press Club regarding the 2012 race for the U.S. House of Representatives in Oklahomas 1st District.
Olson, 34, has been encouraged by community leaders to explore the possibility of running for the office that has been held since 2002 by Rep. John Sullivan.
We are thrilled to hear that John is looking at the race, Tulsa County Democratic Party vice chair Michael Whelan said. We deserve a congressman who will serve the people of this district rather than the interests of Washington lobbyists. Johns integrity and record of service are exactly what we need representing us at our nations Capitol.
Tulsa attorney Doug Dodd, former Democratic candidate for the 1st District seat, is expected to attend the news conference. Other dignitaries anticipated include Sen. Judy Eason McIntyre, D-Tulsa, and George Krumme, owner of Krumme Oil.
Im delighted to see a young man of Johns caliber in both business and family and a person who has already served in the military and continues to do so now offer his service to the citizens of the 1st District, Dodd said.
In 2007, Olson interrupted law school at the University of Tulsa to serve in Afghanistan. The highly decorated soldier was a combat advisor in his 12-month deployment, advising the Afghan National Army in leadership, operations and logistics. During his deployment, he earned the Bronze Star for exemplary service. Upon returning to Tulsa, Olson finished his law degree while simultaneously getting a Masters of Arts in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in 2009.
Olson is the owner of Advantage Business Resources, a small business that conducts survey research and makes recommendations for organizational development. In addition, he continues to serve as the Company Commander of Echo Company, 1st Battalion, 354th Regiment of the U.S. Army Reserve from Tulsa. In addition to his military, business and legal experience, Olson is a devout family man. He and his wife Zsa are parents to six children.
The second stop on Olsons three-city announcement tour will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Pizza Hut in Wagoner (109 S. Dewey Ave.). The final rally will be at 3:30 p.m. at Two Sisters in Bartlesville (110 S.W. Frank Phillips Blvd).
