The opening of the 2025 Oklahoma Legislature was filled with Red State fanfare.
Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt was at the podium to deliver his State of the State address flanked by Republican Speaker of the House Kyle Hilbert and Republican Senate Pro Tem Lonnie Paxton. Packed around them were the overwhelmingly Republican members of the House and Senate assembled in numbers so strong they call it a "supermajority."
No question about it ... Oklahoma these days is Donald Trump country.
That's why it was probably a good thing that assembled outside on the Capitol steps was a group with a different point of view, a rag-tag group singing a Woody Guthrie song and reminding everybody that Guthrie ― an iconic Oklahoman ― was also the closest thing possible to being a Communist without officially joining the party.
