Federal agency flags Hern campaign loan

The Federal Election Commission on Tuesday flagged a bank loan taken out by U.S. Rep. Kevin Hern (R) and asked his campaign to provide more information about why it appeared to be overdue on a report filed in July.

The commission sent Hern for Congress a notice asking the committee to amend its July 15 campaign finance report “to clarify the current status of this loan and disclose the current terms and conditions if the loan was renegotiated.”

“Note that an overdue bank loan may be considered a prohibited contribution by the bank or lending institution,” the FEC wrote.

Hern’s campaign treasurer responded to the FEC on Tuesday that Hern for Congress “has renegotiated the terms of the bank loan in question” and would provide the information in October.
