Tulsa Council proposes ordinance prohibiting minors from purchasing, possessing aerosol spray paint

City Councilor Connie Dodson thinks Tulsa can help address two problems with one ordinance.

In an effort to combat both huffing and graffiti she proposed on Wednesday that the city prohibit minors from buying or possessing aerosol spray paint. The proposed ordinance would also prohibit minors from possessing or purchasing spray fabric dye and spray metal coating.

“Huffing” refers to intentionally inhaling fumes to get “high.”

Minors could possess or purchase aerosol spray paint if in the company of a parent, guardian, employer or teacher.

The proposed ordinance would impose a fine of up to $200 on individuals younger than 18 who violate the local law.
