Why it's so hard now to find an Ohio health director

Who would sign up to lead a politically divided state through a global pandemic, potentially facing personal attacks for professional choices?

Not Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine’s latest pick to lead the state health department: Dr. Joan Duwve.

On Friday, Duwve told a South Carolina newspaper she didn’t want to face the same “harassment” that former Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton’s family encountered.

“While I have dedicated my life to improving public health, my first commitment is to my family. I am a public figure,” she said in a statement provided to The State newspaper. “My family is off limits.”

**** why did the author of this article put the word “harassment” in quotations? Dr. Acton was clearly harassed and even threatened. The treatment she endured by the Neanderthals in the state legislature and some extremists who harassed her at her home is nothing short of unconscionable. And for them to claim to be “pro life” is a frigging sick joke when a lot of them refuse to wear masks. I suppose the only “perfect” candidate in their pea brains would be a white male who gets his jollies regulating women’s’ bodies ....
