6-year-old Geauga County boy beats leukemia; classmates celebrate final chemo treatment

POSTED 8:07 PM, JANUARY 8, 2020, BY JENNIFER JORDAN

NEWBURY, Ohio (WJW) – There was a standing ovation inside St. Helen Catholic School in Newbury on Wednesday for a 6-year-old boy who has now won the biggest battle of his young life.

John Oliver Zippay, also known as J.O., received his final round of chemotherapy two days after Christmas, ending a 3-year battle with leukemia. So Wednesday, his classmates, teachers and family took time out to celebrate.

"He's doing great! Yeah, he's feeling better. A lot of his side effects over the years involved his legs from the steroids and he's doing great," his father John Zippay said.

I am watching the help for Tornado victims in Dayton.A warehouse full of really nice clothes for those who are still trying to rebuild their homes and lives.

On Spectrum 1 they announced a plan for state wide passenger rail for 80% of Ohio using existing rails.

I grew up in the railroad era. Wouldn’t that be great again?

I love uplifting stories. Such a wonderful family, and school community. May they all be blessed.

My best friend lost a child to leukemia many years ago. She used to say that there was no hell after death because for a family with a terminally ill child, they lived in hell on earth every day. She has also since passed, and I strongly believe they are both together now in a much, much better place.

Thank goodness he beat this. His parents really suffered, too. Hopefully, this is final, he is cured.
