Ohio GOP chair calls on state Rep. Candice Keller to resign over mass shooting comments

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Ohio Republican Party Chair Jane Timken has called on GOP state Rep. Candice Keller to resign for a Facebook post blaming mass shootings in Dayton, Texas, and elsewhere on everything from gay marriage and transgender people to open borders and legalized marijuana.

“Candice Keller’s Facebook post was shocking and utterly unjustifiable,” Timken said in a statement Monday. “Our nation is reeling from these senseless acts of violence and public servants should be working to bring our communities together, not promoting divisiveness.”

Keller didn’t answer a phone call Monday afternoon, and her voicemail was full.

In Keller’s post – which was later deleted – she offered a long list of who and what should be blamed for the shootings, including “the breakdown of the traditional American family,” “the acceptance of recreational marijuana, Democratic members of Congress (“many members whom are open[ly] anti-Semitic”), and “snowflakes, who can’t accept a duly-elected president.”
