DeWine administration defends streamlining feds' access to millions of Ohio driver's license photos

He not only defends it, but as AG he streamlined it!

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Gov. Mike DeWine’s spokesman on Wednesday defended the access that federal authorities have been given to the state’s facial-recognition database, which includes millions of Ohioans’ driver’s license photos.

However, DeWine spokesman Dan Tierney said the governor supports Attorney General Dave Yost’s order to review whether the facial-recognition database, part of the Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway (OHLEG) network overseen by the AG’s office, was used for forbidden purposes -- such as sweeping surveillance “dragnets” of Ohioans.

For years, Ohio and a number of other states around the nation have offered access to driver’s license photos to the FBI and other federal agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The Washington Post first reported the story Sunday.

In 2016, while DeWine was attorney general, state officials signed a memorandum with the FBI to streamline access to the database, which includes millions of driver’s license photos -- most of which are of residents who have been convicted of no crime -- sent by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles around 2011.

********Gosh, you mean to tell us Mr. Gnome, you can guarantee that this egregious invasion of privacy was never used for nefarious purposes nor ever was given to ICE for immigrant dragnets? Now, we've got a big dragnet coming up on Sunday as ordered by your Traitorous Orange Leader, are you gonna tell me that all Ohioan's privacy will be respected here? Yeaaahhh riiiight. I wouldn't trust anything you say MIkey.
