UAW announces tentative agreement with Mercy Health

TOLEDO -- The United Auto Workers union announced Wednesday a tentative agreement with Mercy Health to end the 38-day St. Vincent Medical Center nurses strike.

“The agreement addresses many of the nurses’ major concerns, including quality-of-life issues. Therefore, on June 12th the union agreed to end its strike at Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center and made an unconditional offer to return to work on behalf of all former strikers,” according to a UAW statement.

A spokesman for UAW Local 2213, which represents about 950 nurses on strike against the hospital, said the local’s leadership, including president Sue Pratt, are recommending approval of the tentative contract.

In a statement, Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center said it was pleased to learn that the United Auto Workers and Local 2213 will end the strike and return to work unconditionally if the new contract is ratified. Mercy Health added that it was pleased to learn that the UAW is recommending the tentative agreement to its members.
