Brown, Portman to meet with GM CEO about Lordstown

WASHINGTON -- Ohio Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman jointly will meet Wednesday with the CEO of General Motors about her revelation last week the automaker is slashing 14,700 jobs in North America.

Democrat Brown and Republican Portman will talk with Mary Barra in Portman’s office, according to an announcement the two Ohio senators issued Monday afternoon.

Both are concerned in particular about layoffs of the final shift of 1,400 workers at the Lordstown GM plant, which produces the Chevy Cruze. The plant near Youngstown would close in March 2019.

The company already has eliminated nearly 3,000 jobs at the Lordstown plant over the past two years.
