Ohio Democratic gubernatorial hopefuls tout qualifications over policy differences
COLUMBUS, Ohio--Ohio's three major declared 2018 Democratic gubernatorial candidates so far don't seem very different when it comes to policy - they all talk about job creation and doing more for education and to fight the opioid epidemic.
But speaking with reporters at an Ohio Democratic Party dinner on Saturday, ex-state Rep. Connie Pillich, state Sen. Joe Schiavoni, and former U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton each staked out a position on why they're the best Democrat to lead the state once term-limited Republican Gov. John Kasich leaves office.
Pillich, a 56-year-old from Cincinnati who ran for state treasurer in 2014, is emphasizing her work ethic, her Air Force leadership experience, and her past ability to win in a GOP-leaning legislative district.
"I don't know what their policies are," Pillich said of her Democratic opponents. "I do suspect that we're all pretty good Democrats. But what this campaign is going to be about is leadership."

These days, so many campaigns have become increasingly nasty - and personal. For that, I blame Trump, the man with no knowledge, experience or policy, who conducted the nastiest campaign in history, personal attacks and name calling - since he had nothing else. 
He changes his mind practically mid sentence since it's not about policy, but all about "him." And it looks like that's increasingly the way to go, these days. Your description is very apt, it's no longer about beliefs or policies, but a cult of personality. What I don't understand is how anyone can like Trump's...
