Williams County, oil transport company, settle fine dispute for $500K

Williams County officials and an oil transport company that at one point faced a fine of millions of dollars for operating without permits have agreed to a $500,000 settlement.

Attorneys representing both the county and Western Petroleum LLC, and its parent company, Pilot Thomas Logistics, met last week for a closed-door conference to finalize the deal.

As a result of the executive session, Western Petroleum agreed to pay a fine of $500,000, and to withdraw two separate lawsuits in federal and district court.

The company is to pay $250,000 immediately, and submit the other half of the money by Dec. 1. If the fine is paid on time, the matter will be closed, Williams County attorney Karen Prout said.
