Unemployment benefits in North Carolina among worst in the nation

Nearly every worker faces the prospect of unemployment at one time or another. Unemployment insurance payments have always been a key financial backup as they look for other jobs.

In North Carolina, however, that backup is not as generous or long lasting as it once was, according to a new report.

The Center for American Progress reports that North Carolina ranked 49th in the nation in unemployed workers drawing insurance payments. Only 12.4 percent of the jobless received them in 2015.
