We went to North Carolina to get residents side of the story after Hurricane Helene.
People told us that the systems designed to help people rebuild and recover are failing.
Its a much bigger problem than we imagined and its only going to get worse. One solution? Making fossil fuel companies cover some of these costs. NY Governor Kathy Hochul has until the end of the year to make it happen.
Links to make donations to the various people impacted by the hurricane and other charitable organizations are noted in the description of the YouTube video.

(10,185 posts)Everyday. An access road to the VA east of Asheville just opened last week. Took it to the Hospital Friday. Holy shit. And I live west in a devastated area as bad.
Trump and Elooooon wanted the help cut from this budget. And this is Trump humping country up here.
Not much happy holidays going on here.

(7,206 posts)People were living in trailers next to every house for a year after Katrina hit New Orleans and the repairs took over a year, some never recovered.
In an instant society its hard to imagine, but these people will need ongoing help for a long time.
