2026 NY governor's race rated 'solid' for Hochul in a pro-Dem climate

Gov. Kathy Hochul already was leading potential election opponents in both parties by double digits in early polls and seen as likely to win re-election in pundit forecasts for 2026.

Then Rep. Elise Stefanik abruptly ended her campaign Dec. 19, leaving Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman as the sole Republican contender — a lesser-known candidate without Stefanik's national fundraising power. And a day later, the non-partisan Cook Political Report shifted its rating for New York's next governor's race to "solid D" from "likely D" — seeing no chance at all of a GOP victory.

Republicans are already whining. Democrats need to fix the congressional districts that the non-bias idiots talked them into.
