Sherrill backs incumbents in Mercer county commissioner race

Two veteran Mercer County Commissioners facing a challenge in next week’s Democratic primary have received an endorsement from Gov. Mikie Sherrill.

“I’m endorsing Lucy Walter and John Cimino for county commissioner because they have the track record of delivering for residents in Mercer County,” Sherrill said. “They’ve driven a culture of fiscal responsibility in Mercer while also prioritizing strong emergency services and investment in our capital city.”

They face Nakia White Barr, a former Princeton University vice president who ran strongly enough at the Mercer County Democratic convention to share the organization slogan.

Cimino was first elected to the county freeholder board in 2008, defeating incumbent Freeholder Tony Mack (D-Trenton) at both that year’s county convention and the Democratic primary a few months later. Walter has had an even longer tenure on the board, first winning her seat in 1999.
