West Orange councilwoman (D) announces bid for mayor

West Orange Councilwoman Joyce Rudin announced her campaign for the Essex County township’s mayorship on Friday, becoming the fourth candidate to join the November non-partisan race.

The first-term incumbent, Susan McCartney, is planning to seek re-election. Board of Education President Brian Rock and Councilwoman Tammy Williams are already in the race.

The filing deadline is August 20.

Rudin is a former TV reporter and member of the West Orange Open Space Commission. She won a township council seat in 2024

Her husband championed a leaf blower ordinance. The current mayor vetoed one the council voted in, much to the disgust of the citizens and area environmental groups who worked for this. Nearby towns all have one that requires battery-powered leaf blowers.

The current mayor, Susan McCartney is corrupt. There is a police officer whose brother owns a lawn maintenance firm in that town and that is why she vetoed it. The police officer actually admitted this to my face, as incredible as it sounds.
