Abandoned chihuahua found stuffed in bag along railroad tracks, N.J. shelter says
A man walking his dog Saturday morning in Cumberland County, New Jersey, found a chihuahua stuffed into a bag and was able to rescue the distressed animal with the help of a local shelter.
The man, who was not identified, was walking along the railroad tracks behind Crystal Avenue in Vineland when he noticed the bag and his dog reacting to it, according to a statement from the South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter.
The man picked up the bag and brought it to the shelter and volunteers there found the urine-soaked chihuahua inside, the shelter said. The dog was visibly shaken and lucky to be alive, the shelter said in a statement posted to its Facebook page. The chihuahua, now named Coco, was evaluated, given care and as of Monday, remained in the care of a foster family, officials said. Coco was not yet available for adoption.
The incident was reported to the Vineland Police Department and anyone with information is asked to contact the department at 856-691-4111.
