For sale: God, guns and separatism in the American Redoubt

Montana real estate has boomed since the pandemic began as remote work enables people to live where they want. Some realtors are angling toward a different migration motivation: God, guns, and separatism.

Montana’s real estate market has been burning red hot for well over a year. Some real estate agents have dubbed it a “land grab” as out-of-state buyers snap up properties, sending home prices to astronomical heights, particularly in Missoula, Bozeman and the Flathead Valley.

But even in Montana’s more remote corners, property is selling quickly. Gail Enger, a longtime broker in Thompson Falls, said that a few years ago Sanders County — a remote community with about 11,400 residents pinned against the Idaho border — would have dozens of properties for sale at any given time. Now there might be fewer than 12.

And when a property is listed, it goes quickly. In 2019, a property would usually be on the market for more than 100 days before being sold. In October 2021, the average was 39 days on the market, according to the Montana Regional MLS.

For years, Enger said, many of the people who moved to Sanders County were retirees looking for a quieter place to enjoy their golden years. But another type of buyer has emerged from California, Washington and elsewhere looking to live in a more conservative community that matches their political values. Enger said that type of buyer has increased considerably since the election of President Joe Biden.

This might not be a bad idea if they all settle in a central location. It will make it a lot easier to round them up when the time calls.

I doubt that the newcomers are ones who will look for low wage retail and food service jobs.

But having them all in a centralized expanse - isolated and away from the urban population centers - does not bother me unless or until they decide that they want to impose their lifestyle on the rest of us. In the end, it won't change a damn thing because these people do not want "Conservative Values" (whatever the fuck that was supposed to mean anyway).

They want approval from society on their regressive, hateful and racist views. They do not want to have to respect all people and all views - only THEIR views and people like THEM. This is NOT a battle of ideas and positions...it is about one half of the people disliking the fact that they are wrong on issues and upset about having their hypocrisy waived in their faces. That is it. Full stop.

They want to persecute sexuality, and non-binary identification and non-hetero exclusive lifestyles - that they find exotic, or threatening (or in many cases - luridly enticing to them) and they don't want to hear how that makes them bigots and oppressors. They want to define "love" and exclude marriage to others while having a higher divorce rate and producing more fractured families

They want control of a woman's sexuality - their own actions and policies show that the "babies" and "life" are MEANINGLESS to them 30 seconds after a live birth is concluded. The kid can die of malnourishment, the mother can die for being a harlot (in their eyes and minds) without receiving proper pre-natal vitamins and care or post-partum treatment and evaluation, and they will not bat an eyelash nor shed a tear...but oh my GAWD...won't somebody PLEASE think of the fetus! Anti-choice activists from the clinics to the bastardized SCOTUS are all about that fetus...until it is born...then its time to send the mother and child away to pull themselves up by imaginary bootstraps. Raise the child in poverty, provide no daycare or education until development is stunted and outcomes decidedly less favorable. And they REFUSE to admit their entire position is bullshit, and really hate being made to confront their own duplicity on the matter. You wanna win an argument with a run-of-the-mill anti-choicer? Ask them how many adopted children they have; and if they say they have some, ask them how many are minority children born from desperation and despair. 95% of them will change the subject after the first, and another 95% of the remainder after the second...these people don't give a fuck about life, they care about 2 things - controlling a woman's body and punishing those who would have the temerity to have sex for pleasure or in non-proscribed ways, period.

They want to freely use words that describe ethnicities and races in derogatory ways - without the requisite social shame or stigma they rightfully bring on. They want to be "free speakers" and "speak their minds" but they don't want anyone to call them to the carpet for it, and they don't want to apologize for real offenses given. They want privilege, and they don't want to be reminded of it.

They want to brandish firearms and open-carry - but the REAL reason they like that is it gets a rise out of Liberals - which is what gives them the perverse pleasure of carrying an AR-15 to Burger King in the first place. When they are all walking around terrorizing each other at Burger King with an arsenal, they don't get any real kick out of it unless someone is offended by their stupidity and ridiculous cowardice to believe that they are being targeted for violent crime 24/7/365. They want to offend and terrorize, otherwise they know they just look stupid acting like Jihadist militias without the real danger.

We are not in an ideological war here.
There are no competing ideas that are being debated and silenced by an oppressive minority.

We're dealing with a huge section of people who have been deceived into believing that freedom means something it never has, ever...namely that to be truly "free" means you must dominate and hold dominion over anyone and anything that you disagree with...that compromise is evil and that everything is existential (so that the truly existential things like losing democracy and free-elections and representative republican governance can be ignore or gas lit).

Want to end all of this in a week?
Institute a tax on political opinions on TV and Radio. Both sides pay for every single politically divisive statement on air. The tax is tripled for demonstrably false claims and it is 10X for whining about being 'targeted by ____side'. Within DAYS, you would see the media landscape cleanse itself. Within a month, people would stop being as enraged. Within a year, we might be able to go back to just having policy debates again, passionate, heated, visceral debates...but debates that end at 5PM and don't ruin the taste of a good steak in the end...

Found on YouTube.

It speaks to the people, the mindset, and the motivations of folks who are radicalizing the region, and their desire to separate from the Union.
