Montana Hot Shots headed to Alberta fires
TOM KUGLIN tom.kuglin@helenair.com | Jun 3, 2019 | Updated 1 hr ago
Multiple Montana Hot Shot firefighter crews will dispatch to Alberta Wednesday as the province deals more than two dozen large wildfires.
Helena, Lolo, Bitterroot and Flathead national forest Hot Shots will leave from Great Falls. Rogue River Hot Shots from Oregon will join them, said Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest public affairs officer Kathy Bushnell. ... The crews do not yet know much about where they will go or their mission once they get there, which is not uncommon at this stage, she said.
More than two dozen fires are burning in Alberta and 10,000 people have been forced from their homes. The government agency Alberta Wildfire reports the largest blaze is out of control about 450 miles north of Edmonton and had burned 887 square miles at the end of last week.
Smoke from the fires drifted into several western states last week, causing air quality in Helena to reach 'unhealthy' levels for nearly a day.

(6,831 posts)3. Whenever I see firefighters/EMTs,
I always shake their hands and thank them for what they do. These folks put themselves at risk everyday for people they don't even know. They snatch people from fire's grasp, saving their lives and take them to safety. Without regard for their own lives, they vanquish the beast and take back its power. They restore order from fiery disaster. They are heroes and angels, the best of us.
Bless all firefighters. Stay safe out there.

(4,273 posts)4. The fires must be horrific.
The smoke settled in the Helena Valley on Friday and cleared on Saturday as the weather front moved to the East. It is worrisome to have this so early in the summer.
If the situations were reversed the Canadians would come help us.
