(Detroit Free Press) A woman who graduated from Eastern Michigan University just a few years ago was among the eight killed Saturday afternoon at an outdoor mall shooting in Texas, in what is being reported as the second deadliest mass shooting in the United States this year.
Aishwarya Thatikonda, the university confirmed, was working as a project engineer with a construction firm and had gone to the mall with a friend to shop ahead of her 28th birthday. The friend was injured in the shooting and is reported in stable condition at a hospital.
"She will forever be remembered as a strong Eastern Michigan University Eagle," the university said in a public statement released Monday. "As the nation has to once again grapple with a senseless act of gun violence, we share our condolences with Aishwarya's family and friends." .............(more)
