Voting in my district's primary

It's mostly a GOP primary since there's only one Democrat on the ballot. The GOP mafia leaders are flooding our mailboxes with who to vote for and who not to vote for. Do I do a crossover vote for the one they don't favor? Is that helpful in any way? Or do I just vote for the lone Democrat?

I've never completely understood the whole crossover vote.

But you cannot vote for both parties. So if you want to crossover and vote for 1 of the thugs, you cannot vote for any Democratic candidate. I used to do it frequently but found myself on more republican mailing lists so stopped doing it 6-8 years ago.
