Washtenaw County Conservation District millage up for 6-year renewal on August ballot

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – A millage that funds the Washtenaw County Conservation District is set to expire in 2025, but voters may elect to extend it in the August election.

The proposal seeks to renew the current 0.020-mill tax for another six years, meaning it will expire in 2031.

The previous milage was approved with 76% of the vote in August 2019. If approved, the renewed milage is expected to raise $449,818 in its first year for the district, first established in 1948 in response to the dust bowl of the 1930s.

This funding flows to the Washtenaw County Conservation District, a subdivision of state government that assists residents in natural resource management. It offers conservation training, technical assistance for farmers, a tool and equipment lending library and tree and native plant sales to residents, among other programming, according to a county memo and conservation district infographic.
