MIGOP fails to meet campaign finance reporting deadlines as financial concerns persist


(Michigan Advance) While members of the Michigan Republican Party remain embroiled in a dispute over the party’s leadership, information on party finances remains scarce with the party failing to meet the Wednesday reporting deadline.

Republicans have high hopes about retaking the Michigan House and flipping the state red in the presidential election this year, but financial woes have left many leaders worried.

As of 3:20 p.m. Thursday, the party had yet to submit campaign finance reports to both the Federal Election Commission (FEC), and the Michigan Bureau of Elections.

During non-election years, political parties are required to file semi-annual reports on their financial activity, with the deadline for 2023 year-end reports set for 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2024. Failure to meet the deadline may result in fines. ................(more)
