Former Annapolis mayor claims victory in District 6 County Council race

Former Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley said he is “confident in claiming victory,” given early vote counts, to be the Democratic nominee to represent District 6 on the Anne Arundel County Council.

“I promise you, I won’t let you down. We’re going to keep doing amazing things in this place that we love,” Buckley said at a watch party Tuesday night.

Voters went to the polls Tuesday to pick their party’s nominees for the Anne Arundel County Council in the state’s gubernatorial primary. Four districts are guaranteed a fresh face, as two current council members are running for county executive and two others are not seeking reelection.

Buckley led the count at 11:30 p.m. with 3,359 ballots in his favor, representing 46.34% of the vote with all precincts reporting. Katie McDermott netted 2,233 votes, Joe Toolan tallied 926, Dominik Prokop collected 601, and Sean David White had 129.
