After votes to impeach and death threat, Rep. Cindy Axne finds concern over local issues back home
U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne said Saturday she's received both a death threat and words of support since her votes to impeach President Donald Trump although at her first town hall since Wednesday's action, local issues were the focus of the conversation.
The dozens who gathered at the Guthrie County Farm Bureau on Saturday afternoon only raised the issue of the president's impeachment briefly, despite heated debate at previous town halls.
Before Saturday's forum, Axne told the Des Moines Register her decision to vote in favor of impeachment was based solely on facts, adding she feels it is clear the president violated the law and put the country in jeopardy though the decision did not come lightly.
"Although I've been seriously thinking about this for a while and have read very closely the intelligence documents and had studied everything because I'm a fact-based person," Axne told the Register, "when I knew that I would be voting to impeach our president ... I got a lump in my throat."
