Waukee's special election to sell its natural gas utility is today. Here's how to vote:

Waukee voters will head to the polls today to decide whether the city should sell its natural gas utility.

If voters pass the measure, MidAmerican Energy Co. will buy the utility from Waukee for nearly $19 million.

Waukee is the only city in the metro that operates its own gas utility and one of only 51 in the state. The system serves more than 10,000 customer accounts and owns and operates more than 175 miles of gas mains.

City officials have said they can't offer competitive rates and some residents have complained about higher bills.
