Rep. Jeff Shipley Says Trans Iowans Have Mental Illness, Compares Them to Cancer

Rep. Jeff Shipley made at least 10 references to transgender Iowans having a mental illness and he diagnosed them with gender dysmorphia at least 11 times during Monday’s Iowa House floor debate to ban transgender girls and women from playing women’s school sports.

Shipley has no well-known professional experience in the mental health field other than advocating for psychedelic drugs. His current listed occupation on his Iowa Legislature page is “artist.” His previously listed profession was Bubbling Brine Brothers Sauerkraut salesman, professional advocate, and stand-up comedian.

“There are a lot of Iowans who suffer from gender dysphoria and related illnesses, so I would like to start by calling the Holy Spirit to be upon us and guide us during this discussion for the benefit and uplifting of all Iowans,” was Shipley’s first time tying mental illness and being transgender together.

The Southeast Iowa Republican’s remarks occurred during last night’s discussion of HF 2416 and related amendments to the bill, which bars trans girls and women from competing in athletic events designated as being for females, girls, or women.

A nice large gathering of all of us, with the only rule being boots are required. Any style, whatever your favorites, all good. Just bring yourself and bring boots.

Mine tend to be a bit more exotic. Can't go wrong with a nice pair of stiletto heels, and sometimes even platforms to go with them.

If we are mentally ill, it's because the abuse, hatred, bigotry, ostracizing, and violence we've had to endure has made us fucking mentally ill. It's people like you who make us crazy. We would be fine if we were left alone, treated like human beings, felt safe, and got proper fucking care to have our bodies match up with our hearts, our minds and our souls.

YOU are the cause of mental illness, Jeffy. YOU!

Comparing us or gender dysphoria to cancer... FUCK. YOU! Considering what cancer has cost me, considering the loved ones I've watched fight cancer, considering the loved ones taken from me by cancer.. How dare you, you sick sadist thug? If you had any idea what cancer was... If you had a heart.. Hell, if you had a brain... You would not throw around that term lightly or make such a vile comparison.

And since I haven't said it in a few sentences... FUCK YOU, Jeff Shipley.

Lastly, why don't you take your "Holy Spirit" and shove it up your ass? The First Amendment gives you the right to worship whatever you wish.. It does not give you the right to force your so-called Christianity upon us, or use it as a Trojan Horse to spread bigotry.

In closing: Fuck you, Jeff Shipley. And fuck you, Jeff Shipley's holy spirit.

I hate Iowa Nazis.

And, yep. Plenty of corn in Iowa too. I took a bus trip once that took me through both Nebraska and Iowa via I-80. Both states were filled with corn and looked a lot alike, except Iowa felt a bit less like Nebraska.

But I'm all for taking these Nazis and trapping them in their cornfields.
