County election board seeks support for vote centers

The Brown County Election Board voted unanimously Tuesday to begin the process of moving the county to vote centers, pending agreement from the Brown County Council and Brown County Commissioners.

Vote centers would reduce the number of voting precincts to the current number of 11 to perhaps five voting locations around the county, but they would allow a resident of the county to vote at any vote center.

According to a resolution unanimously adopted by the election board, it requests “the support of the Board of Commissioners and County Council that Brown County be designated a Vote Center county.”

If those bodies agree, the election board would then appoint a study committee to prepare a vote center plan, hold a public hearing, take public comments and ultimately present the vote center plan for approval from the commissioners, council and election board.
