INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — There is no money in Gov. Mike Braun’s state budget proposal for Martin University, a private university in Indianapolis and Indiana’s only predominantly Black institution.
State Rep. Gregory W. Porter, a Democrat from Indianapolis, said, “These are just racist moves by this administration, so it’s not fair. We are part of this society and we should not continue to have the rug pulled from under us.”
Porter says the new Republican governor’s budget is a complete cut from the 2023-2024 budget, and there’s also no money for the College Success Program, which encourages minority and first-generation, low-income students to attend college.
Porter says that means a total of $10 million in support for minority students has been eliminated. “Not to fund it at this level would be disastrous, I believe from my perspective for the university and for the students.”

I was there about a year ago, and drove down residential streets where the pavement was gone - it was a mixture of random gravel and base layer.
