McLean County sees low voter turnout in primary election

MCLEAN COUNTY, Ill. (WMBD) — After the primary election on Tuesday, numbers are coming in unofficially on the turnout for this election day and they are coming in low.

“We were at a 21.93% turnout rate. We generally see this in primaries, but we were still kind of shocked with the gubernatorial. We were expecting a little bit better of a turnout, but that is kind of a common thing when we see in general primaries, unfortunately,” said Mark Senger, director of the McLean County Election Commission.

McLean County had just more than 62,000 voters registered, but only 13,600 turned up at the polls, voted early, or by mail. This number could go up with some mail-in ballots still coming in but not by much.

Tazewell County also saw very low turnouts Tuesday, coming in at 18.6%. Around 71% of those voters voted in person on Tuesday. 18% voted by mail, with more coming in, and 11% voted early. These numbers are unofficial as more mail-in ballots are still coming in.

Costa Rica. First election I haven't voted in in 67 years. Not sure if I will be able to vote absentee in November or not.
