(137,209 posts)1. Sorry didn't have camera when lived on shore of the lake,
in Hyde Park (near Obama's place.) I had a great view, from 4-5th floor of old 'hi-rise.'

(7,083 posts)2. What are we seeing starting in 2005 and obviously getting larger with time. Sadly my guess would be floating trash......
...... although in the region where I live, it could be ice after the major breakup in mid-April. It is gone by late May or early June, although relatives born and raised here tell of large remnant ice flows into July in years past.
We have lived here 40 years with no ice flows later than June, so based on the tales they have told, the July ice flows would have been in the 1940s -1960s.
