Prosecutors will seek the death penalty against the man accused of killing four University of Idaho students last fall. ... Bryan Kohberger, 28, faces four counts of murder and one count of burglary for the slayings of Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin and Xana Kernodle at the womens off-campus home on Nov. 13.
Prosecutors had 60 days following Kohbergers arraignment to file an intent to seek the death penalty, which they did Monday. Kohberger declined to enter a plea last month after a grand jury indicted him. Instead, the judge entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.
The case is eligible for the death penalty, prosecutors argued, because Kohberger allegedly committed multiple murders at once while in the commission of burglary, and they were especially heinous, atrocious or cruel manifesting exceptional depravity, exhibited utter disregard for human life and exhibited a propensity to commit murder which will probably constitute a continuing threat to society.
Prosecutors said they have not identified or been provided with mitigating circumstances that would prohibit them from seeking the death penalty.

They usually are very careful not to overcharge. That was the last thing I expected. That means he seems to have had motive and planned to kill all four of them, with just a knife. I would guess he had a gun too but didn't want to use it.
He also seems to have known he was leaving someone alive there that saw him.
I live about 35 miles from there and he was tracked coming down here to our Walmart the next morning, I think. That's interesting, since both Pullman, WA and Moscow, ID have their own Walmart's about ten miles apart. I wonder if they also know what he bought down here if that is the case.

(61,606 posts)2. I took a side trip to Pullman and Moscow one day while driving across Idaho.
I walked around both campuses.
I used to be able to say, "I'd never expect this to happen here," but not anymore
And good morning.
