Sorry this is going to be short just now, but in a nutshell I never had the kala to holoholo beyond the island I grew up on while I lived there.
I have been to the Big Island a couple of times, but would like to visit Kauai or Maui with my husband. Heh, this is a retirement trip, probably won't go again. We won't be hiking or surfing, yeah? Just taking in the beauty, long walks in the sunrise (because for once the jet lag situation is in our favor and we'll be up really early), and eating. My honey really wants to eat a lot of different food.
Mahalo -- and cheers.

(54,049 posts)The 2-mile beach is a beautiful golden crescent with the amazing Princeville resort on one end and the soaring pinnacles of the mountains as they descend into the sea on the other. Just sit on the beach and people watch. There's even hammocks tied off to palm trees you can commandeer in front of the Princeville hotel. Watch the surfers paddle out past the reef as the sun sets over the mountains over the other end of Hanalei bay. This was where they filmed South Pacific, and it is obvious why. There is no more beautiful place on God's green earth.
p.s. Hanalei is a little old hippy town, now more new age/hipster, nestled in the center of the bay with lots of restaurants and funky coffee shops and bars. Definitely a good place to try different types of food.
p.p.s. Take me with you!!!
After spending a few days on O'ahu, you folks will be ready to downshift into full on relaxation mode... Kauai is the place for that.. Enjoy your reunion and have a great vacation..!!
