Maui bookkeeper charged with stealing more than $1M from plant nursery

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Maui bookkeeper has been charged in federal court with stealing more than $1 million from the plant nursery where she worked.

Prosecutors say Thelma Pascua-Suyat worked as a professional bookkeeper for Ki-Hana Nursery in Kihei from 2004 to 2016, and that her embezzlement covered eight of those years.

Ki-Hana Nursery owner Scott Walsh said he can’t comment on the case, but did tell Hawaii News Now he nearly went bankrupt after the thefts.

Court documents filed Friday said Pascua-Suyat used her access to the accounting software, checking and credit accounts of Ki-Hana to take $1,313,631.75 fro the nursery’s bank accounts.
